Supervisory Interpretive Park Ranger will:
Oversees the interpretive and educational program operation at Cape Hatteras National Seashore, including the operations at Bodie, Hatteras, and Ocracoke Islands. Reports to the GS-13 Group Chief of Interpretation, and serves as acting Chief of Interpretation on a rotating basis as needed. Recruit for and supervise 2 Permanent GS-09 Park Rangers, 2 GS-07 seasonal employees, up to 15 GS-05 seasonal employees, and up to 15 volunteers. Plan and assign work to subordinates. Provide guidance and leadership to staff, including supervision, training in the 21st Century Interpretive Skillset, management and administration. Works closely with park partners, including cooperation association, Friends Group and local school district to enhance the interpretive and educational opportunities of all districts. Manage, staff and provide information, orientation, and (formal and informal) interpretation at the park contact stations and on park grounds. Ensure smooth visitor service operations and positive experience for the visiting public. Develop, present, and engage the public through a wide variety of formal and informal audience centered interpretive and education programs and experiences based on sound scholarship and relevant to current social contexts. Plan and facilitate special events and programs, community outreach, and education programs to encourage audiences to develop a sense of stewardship for park resources. Assist with long term planning for park's interpretive operations. Ensure the safety of oneself, team members, park partners, and the public by fostering and positively contributing to the park's safety culture while cultivating a positive and respectful work environment. Generates and contributes content to Outer Banks digital media including web content development, and social media. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To qualify for this position at the GS-0025-11 grade level, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:
Experience:
At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-0025-09 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as:
Park Guide or tour leader; Law enforcement or investigative work; Archaeological or historical preservation research work; Forestry and/or fire management work in a park, recreation, or conservation area; Management, assistant, or program specialist work involving the development and implementation of policy related to protection, conservation, or management of park areas or similar operations. You must include hours per week worked. -OR- EDUCATION:
Successful completion of at least 3 full academic years of progressively higher level graduate education or Ph. D or equivalent doctoral degree related to the occupation. Major study - natural resource management, natural sciences, earth sciences, history, archaeology, anthropology, park and recreation management, law enforcement/police science, social sciences, museum sciences, business administration, public administration, behavioral sciences, sociology, or other closely related subjects pertinent to the management and protection of natural and cultural resources. Course work in fields other than those specified may be accepted if it clearly provides applicants with the background of knowledge and skills necessary for successful job performance in the position to be filled. The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
