Visitor Use Assistant (Fee Collection)

The primary duties of those selected for these Visitor Use Assistant (Fee Collection) positions will be to collect and account for fees. Typical duties could also include working at an entrance station, visitor center, and campground or other visitor contact station. Other duties may include visitor management-related services, such as traffic control, lost item assistance and special event set-up/take-down. The selectee has significant responsibility interacting with visitors and disseminating information. Completes deposit reports to verify money collections, accountable stock sold, and all machine transactions from the shifts, using journal and receipt tapes and computer software. The Outer Banks are comprised by several towns and villages including Manteo, Nags Head, Kill Devil Hills, Kitty Hawk, Buxton, and Ocracoke. The area is a beach destination and the beaches, and Albemarle and Pamlico sounds, provide exceptional recreational opportunities, such as fishing, surfing, boating, and many other waterbased activities. There are several highly rated elementary, middle, and high schools and numerous extracurricular activities available for children. These towns all have homes for sale or rent and are within reasonable driving distance. The Outer Banks has many modern conveniences, such as grocery stores, retail shopping, banks, a hospital, and many restaurants. This position performs handling of money, and the ability to collect and account for money is required. Candidates who do not meet this requirement by close of this announcement will receive no further consideration for this position. - AND - To qualify for this position at the GS-05 grade level, you must possess the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:
Experience:
At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of a Visitor Use Assistant. Specialized experience for this position includes providing information or assistance to the public in a business or recreation setting; instructing groups of people or individuals; and compiling and analyzing information to report including handling, tracking, or depositing monies; using software programs to maintain fee and stock data; resolving issues that arise in the remittance process and assisting staff with fee issues; and using tools or equipment (e.g., cash registers, calculators, etc.) to make sales transactions. You must include hours per week worked. -OR- EDUCATION:
Successful completion of at least four years of education above high school (120 semester hours or 180 quarter hours) leading to a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. (You MUST submit a copy of your transcripts indicating degree earned and credit hours in order to qualify based on education). -OR- Successful completion of equivalent combination of education and experience as described above that meets 100% of the requirements for this position. Experience:
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must include months, years and hours per week worked to receive credit for your work and/or volunteer experience. One year of specialized experience is equivalent to 12 months at 40 hours per week. Part-time hours are prorated. You will not receive any credit for experience that does not indicate exact hours per week or is listed as varies.
